Hedgehogs are one of the UK’s most iconic native species — but sadly, they’re also in serious decline. At The Lakes Forest School, we’re proud to provide a safe and caring space for hedgehogs to live and thrive. By creating hedgehog-friendly habitats and monitoring their activity, we not only support these wonderful creatures but also give children a chance to see real conservation in action. Our knowledgable wildlife experts will provide a hands-on education.

Learning about hedgehogs helps children connect with the natural world and understand how human activity affects wildlife. Through observation and gentle involvement, children discover the importance of protecting habitats, respecting animals, and taking small actions that make a big difference. It’s a hands-on way to nurture empathy, responsibility, and environmental awareness — values that stay with them far beyond the forest.
